Department of Pharmacology and Phytochemistry
Acting Department Head: prof. dr hab. Judyta Cielecka-Piontek
The Department of Pharmacology and Phytochemistry at the Institute of Natural Fibres and Medicinal Plants - National Research Institute located in Plewiska near Poznań carries out plant chemistry research and provides services to the pharmaceutical, food and cosmetics industries.
The main task of the Department is to carry out chemical analyses using spectrophotometric and chromatographic methods (𝗨𝗣𝗟𝗖-𝗠𝗔, 𝗛𝗣𝗟𝗖, 𝗚𝗖).
The analyses are carried out in accordance with the Good Manufacturing Practice (𝗚𝗠𝗣) guidelines of the Ministry of Health. The Department is GMP certified and holds an authorisation to manufacture medicinal products in respect of control operations.
In cooperation with other departments at the Institute, the Department of Pharmacology and Phytochemistry carries out qualitative and quantitative analyses of active ingredients in plants using the HPLC, UPLC, GC and ASA methods.
The department is responsible for designing and validating a method for determining active compounds in the roots and green parts of Baikal skullcap (Scutellaria baicalensis Georgi) using high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and developing a method for assessing the profile of fatty acids and compounds present in the seeds of black cumin (Nigella sativa L.) and the fatty acid profile of evening primrose (Oenothera L.) seeds using gas chromatography (GC).
